What is a portable appliance?
A portable appliance is an item of electrical equipment, which is connected to the power supply by means of a plug and
socket.
Why you need portable appliances tested
Mainly to ensure the equipment you are using is safe and will not cause injury to your staff You also need to undertake
PAT testing to comply with The Electricity at Work Regulations and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations.
Should you undergo Health and Safety Audits or Inspections from the Health and Safety Executive, the PAT Register will
be one of the first items they will look for.
What it involves
Each item is given a visual inspection followed by the electrical safety tests.
